Alice Temperly opted to skip a runway show for the second year running in favor of? a static installation, featuring a film projected from an old-fashioned zoetrope.? In tune with the circus theme of the Spring 2010 collection; the video featured contortionists, knife throwers, ballet dancers, and trapeze artists that modeled the clothing that were displayed on the mannequins. Top hats and harlequin prints were abound throughout the collection yet we did see a few well grounded pieces; cocktail dresses with contrast-piped seams and corset lacing, jumpsuits and knit dresses were among them. Temperley also picked up this years spring trend of tribal prints and showed a full length net dress stitched with scrollwork that appeared as tattoos.

Designer Nicolas Petrou presented a visually dramatic collection that crossed the lines of art and fashion. Inspired by a Sirichai illustration completed for Geoffrey Beene, it seems well suited that Petrou called on Robbie Spencer, “Dazed and Confused” fashion editor, to style the Spring 2010 Presentation. Casual tailoring fused with active sportswear was layered on top of models all covered in masked jumpsuits which leant a surreal touch to the presentation. Light vests, tattered t-shirts, lounge jackets and folded pants with sandals set against the dramatic backgrounds were the highlights of this season’s presentation.

Genetic Denim chose “The Dreaming Tree” as the theme for the Spring 2010 Presentation. Inspiration for the collection was drawn from Yoko Ono and her promotion of love and peace. “One room of The Dreaming Tree allowed guests to literally cut off a piece of denim clothing off a person’s body. This act simultaneously evokes feelings of peace, delicate touch, vulnerability and eroticism- four feelings that illustrate the inspirations behind the Spring 2010 collection.” The Presentation was ultimately more about the atmosphere and mood than the clothing. The front room featured The Dreaming Tree with delicate leaves crafted out of Genetic Denim as well as four models wearing shorts and jeans. The back room held strands of crystals hanging from the ceiling and featured the models wearing strategically placed scarves and ultra-tight jeans. The standout looks included pale yellow skinny jeans with a raised snakeskin texture and the destructed grey skinny jean with light whiskering around the thighs.
