TOMMY HILFIGER
“Preppy With a Pop” was the collection channeled by the creative minds of Tommy Hilfiger and designer Peter Som. The combination of uptown pedigree meets downtown girl gave a refreshing touch to classics such as the peacoat, the trench, and the pencil skirt. Also of note on the runway, the knee high OTK duck boots and ?shawl collared cardigans.
TONI FRANCESC
His second collection to be shown at New York Fashion Week, Toni Francesc presented his “Artificial Life” at the Salon at Bryant Park on February 16th 2010. His show took us on a journey into a world of dark and seductive mystery where technology is established as the solution to all of man’s problems in life. Futuristic forms were achieved with geometric shapes projecting outwards paired with exaggerated shoulders and hips. Textiles included viscose, silk and cotton with an industrial inspired color palette of rusted metals and reflective silvers and golds. Extraterrestrial sounds of spacey music exemplified the futuristic theme.
TONY COHEN
Netherlands born Tony Cohen presented a collection aimed at the quintessential New York fashionista. With almost his entire collection presented in black, you have to look at the details in his work to see why this show stood out. Intricately embroidered silk mesh leggings, 3/4 length jeweled gloves and refreshingly avant garde draping made this a standout collection. His clever use of leather, lambskin, silk and wool boucle added an earthy element to the clothes.
TRIAS
Titled “Vertical Strength”, Spanish designer Joaquin Trias wanted to this seasons collection to be in complete contrast to his previous show, “Lineal Study”. This Fall 2010 line was inspired by strength that gathers through movement. Modern shades of pastels, grays, red, blue and ochre communicated a message of nobility and eternity. Tubular silhouettes were highlighted with voluminous hand-knit tights, high-waisted skirts and thin green leather belts.
VASSILIOS ?KOSTETSOS
Greek designer Vassilios Kostetsos titled his Fall 2010 collection “Eros Anikate Mahan” directly translated: “love unconquered in the battle” finding his inspiration in the 442 BC drama “Antigony“.
Reds, blacks and metallics were used to represent the battle between love and death. Classic draping on evening dresses was balanced by futuristic styling and metallic colors.? Shoulder detailing on dresses and jackets were enthralling, and the screen prints of Eros on handbags, tights, gloves and other accessories tied into Vassilios’ themed collection.
