SUNO
Suno held this years textile giddy presentation at She Breathes in New York City during the Fall 2010 Fashion week madness. Aimed for the younger crowd, this color-crazy collection featured neck-elongating coiffures, Kenyan inspired prints and bubble skirted dresses with playful pleating. Not intended for the fearful of color, this collection is for those not afraid to mix and match prints.
TEMPERLEY LONDON
Alice Temperley presented a strong Fall presentation with a nod to the smart, sophisticated style of Britain. Held at Milk Studios, the use of classic Norman Parkinson photographs dually aided the presentation while being a memoir to the late photographer. Striped boarding school jackets re-tailored, bold knit dresses, bejeweled shoulders and lapels combined with graphic geometry gave the collection an art deco feel.
THIEVES BY SONJA DEN ELZEN
Toronto based designer Sonja Den Elzen debuted her eco-friendly collection, “Thieves by Sonja den Elzen” at the GreenShows for Fall New York Fashion Week 2010. Inspired by the exploitation of Canada’s Boreal forest, her urban nomadic collection featured rugged combat inspired garb. Asymmetrical shapes costume detailing, and oversized hoods were all presented in layered looks of black-on-black. The looks were pulled off through her unique combinations of textures, utilizing fabrics such as organic wool, recycled leather, beeswaxes organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo.
THREE AS FOUR
Banking on their trademark spiral cuts,?Three as Four stepped up their fall collection with a uniquely space aged fashion forward show. Leather, braids, sheer capes and treated materials were all crafted into wildly creative architectural shapes. Particularly interesting were the twisted fabric overlays that gave a jigsaw puzzle-like element to the outfits.
THUY
With only three years in the business, newcomer Thuy has managed to attract a sizable following for reasons displayed with season’s collection. Vague Japanese references, balloon skirts and dresses, and crystal paisley appliqu?s were all fine-tuned themes throughout the show. Jewel tone colors, Swarovski crystals, fur sleeves and metallic fabrics were highlights on the runway. While the collection managed to meddle with both gothic and avant garde themes, it still held an air of accessibility for the fashion forward woman.
TIBI
Designer Amy Smilovic felt it was time for a change at Tibi, introducing leather into the line for the first time ever in the form of pleated black shorts and an ultra miniskirt. The fall collection was comprised of edgy pieces with a feminine twist, in line with this season?s trend. Finding balance in opposites, cropped tweed trousers paired with a drapey bow tie, winter fur shorts matched with a little jacket covered in paillettes, and sheer long-sleeved tees with ultra glam bustiers played to this theme.
TIM HAMILTON
First launched in 2007 as his secondary line Tim Hamilton held his AW Redux presentation at Milk Studios in NYC. Functional foundation pieces in knit materials and city chic outerwear pieces were the focus of the menswear collection. Tar covered boots were the polishing touch of his edgy presentation.
