JEREMY SCOTT
Certainly one of fashion?s more outlandish designers, Jeremy Scott brought the lively and the loud out with his Fall 2010 runway show. Entitled ?Hanger Appeal?, it is the designer?s homage to fashion itself with a collection that in his words he wanted to scream, ?high fashion, high heels and high voltage?. Cue a black knit mini dress with a stained glass print, gem encrusted leather bustiers and batwing sweaters which, when arms extended, read out FASHION. The lively and loud zip up hoodie dresses were crowd favorites and singer Estelle, whose new single played during the show, stated she would be wearing the collection to perform whilst on tour.
JUAN CARLOS OBANDO
Named ?La Poderosa Redux?, Juan Carlos Obando?s collection focuses on ?today?s woman? and her form. Concentrating on the innate power of femininity, the designer presented streamlined silhouettes with his utilitarian daywear demonstrating skill in his ability to create wearable day-to-day pieces. Equally stunning, was the stone gray and black panel floor length gown, achieving Obando?s purpose to show that he could ?cut a dress?.
KAREN WALKER
Think ?Bob Dylan meets The Sound of Music? Karen Walker urged whilst explaining the ideology behind her Fall 2010 creations. The collection was dominated by muted vintage florals, teamed with avant garde accessories but also featured were boyish cut pant suits and jacquard skirt and sweater sets.
KOI SUWANNAGATE
Three years after her debut at Fashion Week, Koi Suwannagate has showed that she continues to go from strength to strength and her design trajectory continues to evolve. We witnessed flashes of color in her signature hand-embellished appliqu?s and bold accessories against a sober color palette of back and gray. The triumph in the collection was within the Suwannagate?s sculpted and gathered knitwear and the intricate origami folds that paid homage to the Japanese kimono which was largely the inspiration behind the Fall 2010 collection.
LAQUAN SMITH
Laquan Smith, a young designer from Queens, makes his fashion week debut for Fall 2010. Working from his grandmother?s house and constructing his imaginative designs on a mannequin, his collection finds inspiration in elements of the ocean with seashell shaped jackets, a color palette of blue hues and fabrics composed of neoprene (material used to make scuba suits). This designer is certainly one to watch, as Rihanna and Lady Gaga are already advocates of some of his more extreme creations. Andre Leon Talley was also at the show to show his support
LODEN DAGER
Helden and Marlow,?Marc Jacobs alumni, are the design duo behind menswear label?Loden Dager that is known for its on trend urban style. Their Fall 2010 collection featured some elegant minimal suiting in neutrals and more experimental pieces in muted mustard and coral. With a strong focus on outerwear, we saw belted peacoats, trenches and parkas and a lean towards the conceptual casual with looser silhouettes and folded waistlines.
