NEW YORK FASHION WEEK F/W 2010: ELISE OVERLAND, ERIC KIM-MIK CIRE, ERIN FETHERSTON, ERYN BRINIE & FRANK TELL

ELISE OVERLAND

Aerosmith?s former costume designer,?Elise Overland showed her Fall 2010 collection this season at Exit Art much to the delight of her star studded front row, which included supermodel?Heidi Klum,?Kelly Osbourne and?Peaches Geldof.?True to classic rock and roll style, the collection featured quilted motorbike jackets, and a great deal of fur and some modern takes on leather work. Taking her inspiration from a video of a surgeon performing open heart surgery, it was the concept of layers and the ?rich glossy colors of the heart? that provided the backdrop for the color palette which featured siren reds, deep purples and black. Also worth noting, is the 80?s influence reflected in the power silhouettes, with strong shoulders and architectural shapes.

ERIC KIM – MIK CIRE

Eric Kim?s debut menswear collection for Mik Cire is a move towards combining the designer?s edgy flair with wearable, urbanite NYC style. Nodding to 90?s grunge and the season-to-season military trend, we saw a strong focus on outerwear, featuring leather pieces and some flannel/ cashmere mixes, cropped wool trousers, asymmetrical zip placement and pony hair briefcases.

ERIN FETHERSTON

Fetherston?s tendency to stay within the feminine dress boundaries has expanded for Fall 2010 in the form of masculine suiting and a playful dynamic between delicate fabrics such as sheer silk, lace and plush velvet. The collection featured some cape silhouetting and within the metallics story there was a stunning long-lined boyfriend blazer.? Acknowledging the Bohemian 70?s vibe, we saw billowing blouse sleeves and pussycat bow detailing and in true Fetherston style, dramatic floor length red carpet style dresses.

ERYN BRINIE

Eryn Brinie introduced a simple color palette of beige, cream neutrals and varying shades of gray culminating in a collection that epitomized grunge glam. Feminine touches such as subtle bow placements down to the styling of the models? hair into Wang-esque rapunzel side braids featured alongside sober black tones. The designer presented fresh takes on outerwear with a trench that had kimono style sleeves and flashes of lace lining and a beautifully constructed shearling leather aviator jacket.

FRANK TELL

Frank Tell?s tribal-futuristic collection was a hit at New York Fashion Week. The designer told his guests at the presentation at Milk Studios that they should look for something between Star Trek and Cannibal Holocaust for style influences. The space-style wedge platforms proved popular when teamed with the leather dominated collection that featured an interesting baby blue bow detail minidress, funnel-necked silhouettes and croc-stamped lambskin.
