LONDON FASHION WEEK F/W 2010: SOPHIE HULME, TIM SOAR, TODD LYNN, TOPMAN DESIGN, UNIQUE, VAUXHALL FASHION SCOUT & WILLIAM TEMPEST

SOPHIE HULME

Sophie Hulme opted for a presentation in lieu of a runway show at this seasons London Fashion Week.? Holding her presentation in an all white gallery room, the clothes were suspended from the ceiling for the audience to walk through. Playing in a simple color palette of black, gold and silver, her signature use of sequins was replaced this season with adornments of perspex discs, brass plating details and industrial-style metalware. Oversized bows adorned silk tops, whistles charmed simple sweaters, armored duffel coats, chunky chains and oversized dresses gave this feminine collection an industrial edginess.

TIM SOAR

Primarily using beiges, blacks, and grays, Tim Soar put together a menswear collection that exuberated luxury.?? Inspired by techniques from the Victorian period, he chooses not to distract his designs with intricate detailing and chooses a more ?understated? approach.?? He employs knit and wool tops paired with blazers and slacks as well as utilizes a British feeling with the fisherman?s hats to create a London look.

TODD LYNN

Todd Lynn sent out a predominately ?skin? collection, consisting of leather, fur, suede, and pony skin.? His collection carried an androgynous appeal with girls wearing very little make up and where some outfits were near the exact same for the man and woman.? He complimented his black garb with earth tone colors, comprising of olive, mud brown, dull yellow, and gray.?? He accentuated the shoulders by playing up the volume of fur or used gunmetal black to create a structural shape to create a defined shoulder.? The pants were tight to heighten the exaggerated shoulder and he also played with straps along the shoes and some glove pieces to build texture.

TOPMAN DESIGN

For the first time ever Topman voted to stage their first stand-alone show at London Fashion Week for their Fall 2010 collection. Oversized outerwear pirated the attention at this show with shearling-lined bomber jackets, plush fur coats and plaid parkas. Delving into an earth-toned color palette boded well for the militaristic collection. Rich burgundy, browns and drab greens were formed into relaxed trousers, tailored suit jackets and nature motifs screened across shirts.

UNIQUE

The Topshop Unique Fall Collection by Karen Bonser and Jacqui Markham was certainly a unique one. With the runway made of a bed of fallen leaves and the girl scout and military-inspired garb, it seems as if this Fall season will be all about great outdoors. Distressed leather parkas lined with shaggy shearling, chiffons with mushroom prints, oilcloth fitted jackets and uniform-like shorts reinforced the outdoor theme. Illustrious fake fur jackets will be flying off the racks at Topshop this season with everything priced for the fashionista on a budget.

VAUXHALL FASHION SCOUT : ONES TO WATCH

A group show featuring up and coming designers: ASKH, David Longshaw, Eudon Choi and Florencia Kozuch

WILLIAM TEMPEST

Entitled “Under the Abaya” the William Tempest fall collection is strongly inspired by the architecture of the Middle East.? Black, midnight blue, sand, mint and emerald green make up the color palette for this newcomer’s shapely collection. Known for innovative seam work, uninhibited volume and vivid color combinations this season held true to these styles. Through his reference of modern-day Islamic architecture, we were shown bold tailored dresses in tone-on-tone colors and mixes of silk and leather. Tempest is surely one to keep an eye on in seasons to come.
