LONDON FASHION WEEK F/W 2010: CHRISTOPHER SHANNON, CRAIG LAWRENCE, DAVID KOMA, ELLIOT FRIEZE

CHRISTOPHER SHANNON

Fall 2010 demonstrates a fresh perspective on sportswear with a display of lively vintage skit knits set against a somber palette of slate gray. Christopher Shannon has continued to collaborate with Eastpak, after Spring 2010?s success. However, they were keen to add certain twists with wanting to work forward from the previous season without repeating the range whilst playing upon ?signature themes? with variations on colors, textures and finishes.

CRAIG LAWRENCE

Craig Lawrence uses a mesh of fabrics in his extremely outr? line of voluminous knits made from unconventional materials. A Central St Martins graduate, Lawrence’s pieces are best experienced through video as photo only serves to cartoonize his creations; what he creates is certainly not made for stasis. On the runway, they come to life as they do in his video, inspired by the Abdication of Crowns, features a model moving in his couture line.

DAVID KOMA

At the Vauxhall Fashion Scout space, David Koma featured structurally interesting pieces, exhibiting zigzag prints upon power pieces and demonstrating a continuous interplay between graphic shapes. Attracting celebrity followers such as Beyonce and Lady Gaga, the designer inspired by Italian futurism and graphic art, used Napa wool and extreme zipper embellishments to create bodycon shapes.

ELLIOT FRIEZE

The Welsh designer debuted his Fall 2010 collection at London Fashion Week, showing signature British classics with hints of modernity through elegant draping and creating timeless sophistication with clean silhouettes and classic tailoring. Using fabrics such as English wools, cashmere and Napa, Elliot Frieze has delicately encrusted semi-precious Tiger’s eye quartz upon the fabrics which focus on a largely autumnal color palette: cognacs, mochas and burnt siennas, inspired by the turning of a leaf.
