On June 13th, Valentino sponsored the Junior Spring Benefit for the Lincoln Center?Institute for the Arts in Education. ?The event, chaired by Rightor Doyle, Mamie Gummer, Zoe Kazan, Carey Mulligan and Lily Rabe took place on the rooftoop of the Gramercy Park Hotel, and featured a sit down dinner followed by a special musical performance by Karen Elson as well as tunes by DJ?Chelsea Leyland.

The Lincoln Center Institute brings ?brings dance, music, theater, and visual arts from diverse cultures into public school classrooms across the curriculum.??and uses it to teach kids important skills like imagination and critical thinking.

The event was attended by a hit list of young talent including ?Zoe Kazan, currently starring in?A Behanding in Spokane; Lindsey Lohan,?Mamie Gummer and her fianc?, Benjamin Walker, who’s stars in?Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Nina Freudenberger, Lily Rabe, who’s currently in rehearsals with Al Pacino for the Shakespeare in the Park production of?The Merchant of Venice, Actor Paul Dano,?as well as XXXX Magazine contributing artist Andrea Tese among many others.

Muse to Nicola Formichetti and star of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video, Rick Genest, also known as Rico and “Zombie Boy,” is shaking up the image of the fashion world. With a full-body skeleton tattoo, this freak show performer caught the attention of Formichetti, creative directer at Mugler and fashion director for Lady Gaga.

Rico was a homeless performer when Formichetti first contacted him via Facebook to come to Paris for Mugler Homme. In order for him to get a passport to be there for the show,?Formichetti paid thousands of dollars in fines that he had received from sleeping on the streets. ?Two weeks after being first contacted, Zombie Boy walked in the Mugler’s runway show in January and became an overnight celebrity.

Formichetti claims that he reworked and added more pieces to the line after seeing pictures of Rico. The influence from Zombie Boy has moved this luxury label to a more gritty and goth aesthetic, where freak is chic.?In an interview, Formichetti said, “I just really fell in love with the way he lived. In a way his story is similar to Gaga, in that there’s no going back. You do what you believe. You are that, you are what you?re creating.”

When fashion is a world of trends and change, how do permanent full body tattoos fit in? There’s Michele Lamy, Rick Owens’ wife and muse with her gold teeth, inked fingers, and facial tattooes, who rattles the cage of traditional beauty in the fashion industry. Now we have Zombie Boy.

XXXX Magazine came on board as a sponsor for the launch party for the PooL Art Fair, which opened in New York during Armory week on March 3rd, 2011. Located at the Gershwin Hotel on 27th Street. ?Hosted by Joseph Grazi and Thierry Alet, the launch party featured performances by bands Nicos Gun and Alkamyme.

Inspired from the French tradition of Artists Fairs, starting from the famous 1863 Courbet?s Salon des Independents, (AKA Salon des Refus?s) PooL is the premiere fair in the US dedicated to unrepresented artists. The first edition took place in 2000 under the title: New York Independent Art Fair.

The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the “Art Fair” experience for dealers and collectors as well as the general public. PooL’s main purpose is to create a meeting ground for outstanding unrepresented artists and the large public of contemporary art professionals. The fair serves as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public.

As the fairs success continues to grow and the platform evolves we now also accept applications from Contemporary art dealers, emerging galleries, curators and non-profit organizations. Artists from these groups shall remain open to working with other art professionals.

The organization, Fr?re Independent, offers artists the opportunity to be a part of the unique and important cultural environment that manifests the week of March 4, 5 & 6, 2011. Hundreds of thousands of art enthusiasts travel to the city to see and buy Art. The Armory Show, Scope, Volta and Pulse are the leading shows during this period, with an established tradition of cultivating art buyers and curators. ?The 3-day exhibition includes curated exhibitions, lectures addressing the challenges of the current art world along with special projects and events.

On February 3, 2011, Norwood, the members only arts club in Chelsea, was taken over by XXXX Magazine’s FACE OFF / DANCE OFF contemporary art happening, presented in collaboration with Indira Cesarine and artist Joseph Grazi. ? The guests of the event in effect became part of the performance itself. As each guest arrived they were presented with an all white mask to wear for the evening – all identical, creating an anonymous environment and ultimate uninhibited playground. Many of the guests customised their masks, and the evening was highlighted by performances by bands Hank & Cupcakes and?Nicos Gun. The masquerade evening tuned into a mad head tossing affair when the bands started performing. At 11pm?Nicos Guns took to the stage and the audience was filled with white faces pounding to the music in unison.

Artist Joseph Grazi, who was featured in XXXX Magazine’s Voyeur Exhibit at Art Basel Miami, 2010, collaborated with XXXX Magazine’s Creative Director Indira Cesarine to create an event that was about spontaneous performance art merging with real life, taking it to a new level of madness as the guests became the part of the art itself.” The masks encourage a new type of socialization, where as normally the face dictates so greatly on who you talk to… and who?you dance with, but with the masks on, everyone gets brought onto the same level of facelessness… ?and thus into a new form of social interaction. “- Joseph Grazi. Grazi has a history of exploring themes of “facelessness” in his work, having presented numerous performances highlighting the theme. He created an abstract brand “Parker Wolf“, which was created in response to society’s continuously growing obsession with fame and individualism. ?Referring to his performances with Parker Wolf, he says “they form a massive living sculpture, one that creates the ultimate visual contrast against a sea of people gone mad with celebrity, and obsessed with the materialism of their own personal identities”

XXXX Magazine Creative Director, Indira Cesarine, caught up with fashion label / rock band “Tuedsay Night Band Practice” at London Fashion Week in September… they were holding fort at the 180 Strand Space, standing out as the only design team with guitars and several amps on hand to entertain the unfazed fashions buyers purusing the stands at the On/ Off exhibit space. The video clip speaks for itself… a bit more info about the rock band/ fashion design team? Hailing from the UK and Australia, the 4 designers had a mutual love of music and fashion. ?Their capsule collection was immediately picked up by one of the top stores, and this past season showed at Australian Fashion week, Paris Men’s Fashion Week and launched in London with a live performance ?at The Den in central London. ?Now in their 3rd season, they have made a global invasion of over 70 stores… look out for their signature denim, t-shirts and knits.
